If you are planning on buying the Samsung Galaxy S10, you may at some point notice that there is a blinking white light on the upper portion of the display. Now before you freak out and think that you got a defective model, think again because this is actually on purpose and is actually linked to the phone’s proximity sensor.
Samsung has actually informed users of this feature (and here too) in the manual for the phone, although given that we’re sure that not many people actually bother to read their manuals, this could be missed.
Basically the white dot is designed to highlight where the proximity sensor is located and only comes on when you make a phone call. According to Samsung:
“When the proximity sensor is in use, such as when you are in a call, it is possible to see a small light blinking near the top of the display.”
It is also to let users know to put their face/ear close to the phone which will then turn off the display when you’re close.
So if you do buy the Galaxy S10 and you see the blinking white dot while making a phone call, don’t worry as it is completely intentional. You can check out the video above if you’d like to see the dot in action and to see what it might look like.
Now, if it stays ON all the time, it may not be working as explained by the official Samsung user support pages…
This should be applicable across the entire Galaxy S10 lineup which includes the lower-end Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+.
