Google’s Pixel 4 Packaging Comes With A Hidden AR Surprise

While it looks like Google could be done on the virtual reality front, it seems that the company is still very much interested in augmented reality (AR), so much so that according to a report from 9to5Google, it has been revealed that the packaging of the Google Pixel 4 actually comes with a hidden AR Easter Egg surprise.

If you haven’t bought the Pixel 4 or see its retail packaging, basically on the back of the box, there is a product shot of the handset. It looks pretty normal and tastefully done, but if you were to open the Google Lens app and point it at the box, it will actually start an AR experience where the box will be overlaid with new images and a welcome shot.

The AR experience doesn’t really do much but it seems like it is a way for Google to introduce the tech and its features to customers who might not be familiar with it, although how customers are expected to find this Easter Egg is beyond us. That being said, now that you know it’s there, if you do plan on grabbing the Pixel 4 for yourself, you can give it a shot.

AR seems to be gaining more popularity than VR these days, namely due to the fact that it is easier to implement. Even Apple is showing a lot of interest in the technology, where if the rumors are to be believed, Apple could announce their AR headset in 2020.
