Google introduces the +1 button

It looks like Google has begun to realize the power of crowd-sourcing data and has updated their search engine to reflect that. Users now have the ability to “like” a result by hitting the +1 link on a search result or ad to say that they found it useful. If the link was recommended by a friend, his/her name will even show up at the bottom, to let you know that you can probably rely on the link. Whatever you +1 will show up on your friends’ search results as well. A pretty cool feature especially if you have a large social network online. Google: Google is an Internet Search company with profits mainly derived from its AdWords advertising program. Google is also known for other high-profile web-related products such as Chrome, GMail, Google Docs or Google Map, and it has also made a very successful entry into the mobile handset market with its Android mobile operating system. The company was created in 1998 and went public in 2004. Google is one of the most visited site in the world.

Google+: or Google Plus, or G+, is a social network and identity service from Google. The service has started as a closed beta in June of 2011. G+ features "Circles", which is a convenient way to group contacts and "Hangouts", which are virtual places where people users can gather in the form of a webcast. Many consider Hangouts to be an alternative to paid multi-party video conferencing services. G+ continues to grow rapidly and it is estimated that within a year, almost one quarter of the adult U.S population will have a G+ account. (last updated on 12/21/2011)
