Earlier we reported that Microsoft had finally released the Xbox Live app onto Android devices, but apparently that was not all they did. Microsoft has also updated its iOS version of My Xbox Live app and now iOS users will be pleased to learn that they will be able to use their iPhone as a remote control for the Xbox 360. According to Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (a.k.a. Major Nelson):

“The free My Xbox LIVE iPhone app update will let you find, learn more about, and control your favorite content from popular entertainment services on Xbox 360. You can control the content on your console with play, pause, fast forward and rewind controls directly from your iPhone. The new Discover section will let you find fresh entertainment through your phone to play on your console. You can also access on your phone a quick list of your most recent console activity.”

So if you like the idea of your iPhone doubling up as a remote control for your Xbox 360, pop on over to the iTunes App Store for the download/update! With the Xbox SmartGlass announced last week at E3, it certainly looks like Microsoft has a lot of functionality planned for mobile devices, and all of this without the user have to purchase new hardware too!
