Nokia Lumia 710 ReviewAs we’ve noted a few times in the past, the fact that Windows Phone 7.x devices are getting passed over for the Windows Phone 8 update is most certainly a pet peeve of current Windows Phone 7.x owners. Microsoft attempted to make up for it with a Windows Phone 7.8 update and while that might appease some users, it looks like if you’re a T-Mobile subscriber with a Nokia Lumia 710, you might be out of luck with both Windows Phone 8 AND Windows Phone 7.8. According to a reader of WPCentral, they emailed Nokia asking if the Windows Phone 7.8 update would be arriving for their device.

The reply was not too comforting as Nokia reportedly stated that there are actually a small number of carriers who have chosen not to roll out the update, and it seems that T-Mobile USA is one of them. T-Mobile has not given a reason why they decided not to go with the update, but it has been speculated that perhaps the cost outweighs the benefit. Either way T-Mobile has been keeping mum on the issue, but hopefully they will be able to confirm this and have a change of heart in the near future.

Update – We have received a PR email from T-Mobile who acknowledges that the Lumia 710 will not be receiving the update at this point in time. “At this time, the Nokia Lumia 710 will not receive the software update. T-Mobile is committed to enhancing customers’ experience with our devices, including providing upgrades to the latest operating systems, and T-Mobile aims to deliver software upgrades when it will provide a better experience for our customers. We’ll share additional information on upgrades for the Nokia Lumia 710 when they are available.”
