There are plenty of smartwatches in the market today and with the launch of the Apple Watch, many are wondering if the device managed to live up to the hype and expectations. Now reviews of the device have been mixed, with some praising its built quality while others have lambasted it for its performance.

That being said the folks at Consumer Reports have conducted further tests following their initial scratch test and have come to the conclusion that the stainless steel Apple Watch is worthy of topping their rankings of smartwatches available in the market at the moment. Additional tests of the watch include measuring how accurate it is at counting steps compared to the competition.

It also tested the heart rate monitor to see how it fares against a more dedicated heart rate monitor. There were also tests to see how legible the device is when viewed under bright light and under low light, and for the most part the Apple Watch held its own. There were some Android Wear devices that fared better but it seems that overall, Consumer Reports felt that the Apple Watch was the best overall device.

Of course this really comes down to a matter of personal preference. Some users might favor a fitness band instead of a watch. Some might prefer Android Wear, some might prefer devices like the Pebble/Pebble Time, but if you had your eye on the Apple Watch, perhaps this report might help you justify your decision.
