One of the reasons why LEDs are starting to replace a lot of older lighting systems in the home and office is because they are energy efficient. Granted they are more expensive, but overall they are expected to help you save money. However like most lighting systems, they will require electricity, so what happens in emergencies where there is no power source?

For those looking for a way to keep their homes brightly lit in instances with no energy, or if you’re somewhere without access to power, then the Lumir C might be an LED lamp you’ll want to consider. The Lumir C is an LED lamp that isn’t powered by electricity, but instead it is powered by how our ancestors used to light their homes – candles.

According to its Kickstarter description, basically the heat generated by the candle will be used to power the lamp. “We focused on the fact that most of fuel are spent as heat energy when a candle burn. By using the principle which is the conversion of temperature difference in two other types of semi-conductor directly into electricity, Lumir C turns LED on only with heat energy of the candle without external power supply.”

The end result is that you will get brighter illumination thanks to both the candle and the LED lamp. It helps that its design is also very sleek and attractive, making this perfect for your home if aesthetics are a priority. The Lumir C is currently on Kickstarter seeking funding, so if you’d like to help out, head on over to its website for the details, or you can watch the video above.
