whatsapp-logo-newJust recently Viber received an update that allowed its users to send GIFs to each other. This is a feature that WhatsApp appears to have been missing, and a feature that we’ve seen make its way to other apps, but the good news is that for all you GIF-loving WhatsApp users out there, you won’t have to wait much longer.

According to @WABetaInfo, a Twitter account that tracks the latest changes made to WhatsApp, it has been discovered in the latest beta of the app that GIFs will now autoplay in links sent in conversations, and will also be directly embedded in your chats. This means that you won’t have to open a separate browser in order to see them in action.

However as pointed out by The Next Web, this is different from the feature offered by the likes of Facebook Messenger which is rather odd considering that Facebook owns WhatsApp, so you would think that they would at least make certain features similar, right? No word on when the latest beta will be released.

We have also heard that other features like video calling and voicemail are in the works, so hopefully we will see all of that in the next major WhatsApp update.
