French Internet service provider Neuf Cegetel is planning to develop a low-cost computer that targets folk who are unable to afford a computer, running on open source software. The entry cost is ridiculously cheap, retailing for a mere €39.90, while a one-time payment of €29 nets you a keyboard, mouse, and camera, and an additional €99 brings home a 14″ color monitor. This computer will run on a version of Linux complete with a graphic overlay designed from ground up by Neuf. The specs aren’t game worthy though, featuring a 512KB flash disk, but it is compatible with external hard drives, printers, headsets, and the ilk. One can say these low-cost computers are strictly meant for surfing and light office work only.
