MicroSD cards with WiFi by KDDI

MicroSD cards with WiFi by KDDI

At Wireless Japan, KDDI* has demonstrated MicroSD cards with a WiFi functionality. Even if there’s no lack of WIFI support, we think that the sheer feast of integration is worth a post. It’s not so much that cramming a WIFI chip in a MicroSD is hard. it’s the fact that they use an antenna that is 2/3 the size of the MicroSD itself.

Now, I know what Verizon users with a “castrated” (no WIFI) phone are thinking: hey, “I want that!”. Unfortunately, you will need drivers to make that work, and at the moment, only Windows drivers have been demonstrated – sorry!
