Skype to acquire Qik

Skype seems to be going from strength to strength. After the VoIP company recently updated its iOS app to support video chat, the company has announced that it has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Qik, the popular provider of mobile video software and services. Qik currently allows users to capture and instantly share videos easily on various platforms such as Android, iOS, Symbian, BlackBerry OS and Windows Mobile.

Skype said that the acquisition would allow the company to take advantage of the engineering expertise behind Qik’s Smart Streaming technology that optimizes video transmission over wireless neworks. Check out a video after the jump for more information.
