Nintendo: There Will Be No 3D-only Games On the 3DS

Do you absolutely dread 3D? Are you worried that Nintendo’s 3DS handheld might eventually only support games in 3D only? Take a deep breath, Nintendo has officially come out to assure fans that there won’t be any games on the Nintendo 3DS that will force gameplay to be a 3D-only affair. In an statement made to gadget blog Techradar, the big man behind the 3DS, Hideki Konno said, “[Nintendo] want[s] to get software out to as many people as possible, and there are some people who just can’t see 3D. [Nintendo is] moving away from any stance that says if you don’t use the 3D functionality you can’t play this game.” Konno’s reassurance is not really shocking. There’s a reason why the 3DS has a depth slider switch to toggle between 3D and 2D and why the company doesn’t recommend that the 3D effects be turned on for children under six-years-old, which is to avoid any potential eye-damage lawsuit claims by people who are sensitive to stereoscopic images. But if there were any fears Nintendo would only make 3D-only games for the 3DS moving forward, consider those fears squashed.
