Microsoft goes on $7.5m shopping spree for Net addresses

Microsoft has decided to flex its financial muscle yet again by forking out a cool $7.5m for Net addresses, and considering that the current pool of version 4 net addresses has almost run dry, it might just be good business sense in doing so. All the Net addresses were purchased from bankrupt telecoms firm Nortel. A total of 666,624 IP version 4 (IPv4) Net addresses were put up for auction in order to help Nortel offset their assets, and if Microsoft times things properly, they might just make a handsome profit out of it in the future, although this will be a one off thing and won’t be a permanent money generating venture.
