Guitar Hero not dead, series is on “hiatus”

A few months ago, Activision said that it was killing off the Guitar Hero franchise because of a decrease in interest for music rhythm games. In a new interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Activision developer relations VP Dan Winters said that the series was on “hiatus” and that the publisher would “continue to sustain the channel.” Winters added, “the brand won’t go away. We’re just not making a new one for next year, that’s all.” And here I was about to bin my old plastic guitars. For fans who invested in the plastic instruments, this is great news! It makes sense for the series to take a break. Those Aerosmith and Metallica versions of Guitar Hero were just plain awful. Definitely a low point for the franchise. Tell us, are you looking forward to a Guitar Hero revival in the future? What features do you think Activision needs to add to refresh it? Include more realism ala Rock Band 3?
