The iCubist app will enhance the visitor’s tour around the museum, providing high-quality spectral images of selected pieces that will be displayed at the museum. The high quality spectral images show the artworks at different light frequencies (ultraviolet and infrared), allowing viewers to spot details they weren’t able to see before.
The app will also have activities like deconstructing a Cubist composition and attempt to put it back together. Through this process, users can learn about the processes the master Cubists went through when creating their own compositions, educating the users on how to create great Cubist work.
iCubist also has a feature for comparing artwork from Picasso and Braque from their Cubist periods, as well as photographs of the artists and friends, and reproductions of key works of art.
Picasso and Braque: The Cubist Experiment, 1910–1912 is on view at the Kimbell Art Museum from May 29 through August 21, 2011, and at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art from September 17, 2011, through January 8, 2012. Find out more.
