Sprint WiMAX Samsung Galaxy S II spotted at the FCC

Galaxy S II FCC Sprint

Last week we reported that a Sprint-headed Samsung Galaxy S II (aka Galaxy Within) phone was spotted in the wild thanks to folks over at This Is My Next. Today, Engadget learned that the phone has paid a visit to the FCC and has made it out alive. However, it looks like the phone has been given a bump in size, making it 5mm taller and 3mm wider than the original Galaxy S II phone.

Could this be due to the additional WiMAX radios on the phone? Yes, you heard us right – the SGS II for Sprint will support the carrier’s 4G network. While it isn’t as fast as 4G LTE, it’s still a step up from 3G and will no doubt please Sprint customers looking for a high-end 4G Android phone. Hopefully this means the wait for the SGS II to arrive on our shores won’t be too far away.
