Zune 4.8 introduces 2-day movie rentals and Mango support

The Zune is dead, long live the Zune. Well, Microsoft’s attempt at taking over the iPod’s throne seem to have failed rather miserably, but that does not mean the company has given up on the Zune platform which has now turned to be more of software than hardware. In the latest update of its Zune software, Microsoft allows it to function as a companion utility for Windows Phone handsets as well as their now defunct portable media players.

Verzion 4.8 of Zune will see plenty of changes under-the-hood that are not immediately noticeable, but with it playing nice with the next Windows Phone update which is also known as Mango, those who are hardcore fans of Zune will definitely find this piece of news invigorating. Folks who have yet to update their Windows Phone 7 software to the latest version will need to click the update button once in order to install multiple updates.

Not only that, the backup process has been streamlined so that media and various other phone content are separated, cutting down backup times in this fast paced world where every minute counts. You can also opt to skip the phone backup step if your hard drive happens to be filled to the brim. Not only that, Zune 4.8 will also introduce 48-hour movie rental support in addition to parental controls for M-rated content – anyone given this update a go yet?
