Twisted Metal, a game known for its violence and mayhem has unsurprisingly been censored in Europe. While we’re sure that not everyone in Europe minds the censorship (we’re thinking parents will be extremely pleased by this piece of news), what it does mean for gamers looking forward to the game is that it will be seeing a delay. The US edition of the game is slated for a 14th February release (17th Feb for Europe), but Europe could only be receiving it in March as it will need to be adjusted (or censored) accordingly.

According to David Jaffe, Twisted Metal’s director, we will not be seeing a Twisted Metal: Black level of censorship. It seems that the majority of the cuts and edits take place in the movies within the game, and while content will see some censorship, it is expected to keep the same “tone” as they had originally been intended.

“For example, in the scene we’ve released on the net from the intro- where the girl stabs Tooth in the eye- the SCEE version has this but we cut away right before the scissors make contact with Tooth’s face. It’s CLEAR what she’s doing and I think we even keep the sound effects in and such- but the last few frames are gone.”

The good news for those who can’t wait, or would rather not play a censored version of the game is that since PS3 games are region-free, gamers still have the option of importing the US version of the game at the cost of additional shipping and handling fees.
