Wolfenstein 3D Turns 20; Bethesda and Id Celebrate with a Web-Browser Game

The fact that I remember the first ever FPS game I ever played makes me both sad and happy all at the same time. Sad, because I just realized that I am officially old and happy because of the great memories I had during the hours I spent shooting pixelated German soldiers. Bethesda and Id came up with a game that just hit its 20th birthday today and in conjuction with Wolfenstein 3D’s special day, Bethesday decided to celebrate by unveiling a web-browser version of the game. Of course the reason why I took a little longer to draft out this post is because I was admittedly stuck on the first level of ‘Episode 1: Escape from Wolfenstein’.

If you remember the game or just want to give it a try because someone has mentioned it in passing, just click here to head on over to Wolfenstein’s new website where you can stroll through memory lane with a gun and small knife which looks like it could be made from cardboard. A little tip we can give you is to customize the controls because in its original state it seems just a little ridiculous. In addition to that, embedded above is a fun new director’s commentary video from John Carmack, the director of the game when it was first released 20 years ago.
