iPhone 5 supply constraints reportedly due to use of new in-cell display technology

iPhone 5 ReviewIf you weren’t quick enough to pull the trigger when it came to pre-ordering the iPhone 5, you could face delays of 3-4 weeks, at least according to Apple’s website (you could try your luck at your local carrier, they might have some in stock). So what could be causing these delays? Was the demand of the iPhone 5 much greater than Apple had anticipated? Perhaps, but according to reports, it seems that the use of the thinner displays in the iPhone 5 are to blame.

This is according to a Barclays analyst, Ben Reitzes, who stated that Apple is facing production constraint of the in-cell display technology, with its production being particularly challenging for Apple’s display manufacturers, LG and Japan Display. The report has also suggested that Apple had approached Sharp to aid with the manufacturing but due to Sharp facing many defects in their production, we guess it did not help with the constraints. Hopefully all of this will be sorted out in due time but for now, we guess you will have no choice but to wait.
