Samsung Smartphones Overtake Nokia In China

If you were to take a look around you, how many people actually make use of featurephones, and just what is the exact number of folks who rely on smartphones to get their mobile communication fix? It does seem as though there are more smartphones around than featurephones, but that could be my personal interpretation of the situation and I could be wrong. What TrendForce has discovered, however, is based on research and not hearsay, where they have come forward to claim that Samsung has already overtaken Finnish heavyweight Nokia as the most commonly used smartphone brand in China, and this is a position that the South Korean company has held since the third quarter of 2012.

The party conducting this research was Avanti, a division of global market research firm TrendForce, and guess who is in third position? No prizes if you answered “Apple”, where that brand name was associated with “brand image” and “intent to purchase” by most of the folks living in China. Will we see Apple usurp Nokia down the road, too? Only time will tell.
