Huawei W1 was announced today, the company’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone, which will go on sale online in the U.S. this month. Huawei says that as a Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the W1 is easier to use, it provides quicker access to vital information and it is more personal. Todd Greenberg, General Manager of US Windows Phone Sales at Microsoft said that the W1 is “a great addition to the Windows Phone 8 portfolio of devices in the U.S.”

The Huawei W1 touts a 4-inch Gorilla Glass IPS LCD touchscreen display, a 1.2GHz dualcore processor, a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera on the back with 4X digital zoom and LED flash and a VGA front camera with single LED flash. All this is backed up by a 1,950 mAh battery. User available internal storage is 1.7GB, though there’s the option of externally increasing storage by using microSD cards of up to 32GB. No exact pricing and availability details have been provided just yet, though it is said that the Huawei W1 will be “competitively priced.” Huawei’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone is slated to go on sale this month on Walmart.com and select Walmart stores in the country.
