According to a new report, which cites three different people familiar with the company’s plans, LG is going to release a smartphone next year that will support always-on voice commands. These commands will be employed differently than assistant services like Siri and Google Now, apparently they’ll be more broadly focused for navigation features. These voice commands will reportedly be useful in instances like operating smartphones while driving, users wouldn’t have to touch the screen to use key functions.

For example users will be able to command Google Maps to switch views or pan around the map, they’ll also reportedly be able to tell it to zoom in or out. Existing voice commands are focused towards dictation, launching apps or searching, these always-on commands could very well bring a whole new way of interacting with an Android device. This LG smartphone is expected to be based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor, which is said to support always-on voice capability. LG is reportedly taking advantage of this hardware capability to make its smartphones more adaptive to voice commands. No additional details are available as yet regarding this LG smartphone, but if we hear anything at all, we’ll let you know.
