AT&T ‘Next’ Plan Allows Customers To Upgrade Devices Once A Year

It was just last week when AT&T teased some big news it was planning to announce on July 16. We’ve been waiting patiently to see what exactly ole Ma Bell has up its sleeves, and today, the company announced its “Next” mobile upgrade plan.

AT&T’s Next will allow its customers to upgrade their devices more frequently, which most wireless carriers in the U.S. don’t allow you to upgrade your device for at least 24 months. With Next, customers will be able to trade in their device, whether it be a smartphone or tablet, once a year on a post-paid basis, which means customers will pay a monthly fee on top of their current AT&T plan of a 20-month cycle. For example, if a customer wants a new device, AT&T would divide the retail cost of the device by 20, and then add that number of your monthly bill on top of your standard plan. So in a way, you’re paying just a little bit more than the everyday AT&T customer in order to be able to upgrade your device within 12 months.

AT&T’s Next plan will begin to be available to its customers starting on July 26.
