This time around, The Wall Street Journal’s standard slew of anonymous sources that claim to be “familiar with the matter,” touts that BlackBerry (the company formerly known as Research In Motion, or RIM for short) intends to spin off their Messenger service as a more independent subsidiary, where it will also carry the iconic BBM Inc. name, before it is sold off to another pair of reliable hands. What do you think of this particular strategy from BlackBerry, where selling off their Messenger service would be somewhat akin to putting their crown jewels on offer.
