Moto X Developer Edition Revealed

Soon after it unveiled its flagship smartphone, Motorola updated us all on the Moto X bootloader status. The company announced back then that it would offer two variants of the device just for developers. Motorola has now revealed the Moto X Developer Edition on its own website, though it hasn’t said when the device will be released or how much it will end up costing the end user. There won’t be any internal hardware changes, though it appears that Motorola has made some subtle cosmetic changes to make the Developer Edition a little different from the pack. The image shows a black front and white back with silver accents around the volume controls and the rear camera.

People waiting for the Moto X Developer Edition won’t really be concerned about accents or cosmetic changes, they’ll only be concerned about the bootloader. Motorola mentions on its website that this variant will ship with an unlockable bootloader, allowing customers the ability to tinker with their devices and install custom ROMs. However, the company does include a warning. Once the bootloader is unlocked, all warranties will become void, the customer will have no recourse with Motorola if something otherwise claimable under warranty went bust. The Moto X Developer Edition with 32GB of on-board storage is currently listed as “coming soon,” pricing information is yet to be revealed.
