Tomb Raider Sequel Confirmed By Square Enix CEO

Back in 2010, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced that they would be rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise. The game was then released in 2013 after a delay which saw its original release date pegged for 2012, and while the game managed to sell 1 million copies in 48 hours, and 3.4 million in retail alone, it was deemed to be a disappointment by Square Enix due to their incredibly high expectations (they projected 6 million) for the franchise. Well the good news is that even though it did not exactly meet Square Enix’s expectations, it looks like a sequel to the game is currently in the works.

This was confirmed by the Square Enix CEO of the Americas and Europe, Phil Rogers, who revealed that the sequel was being worked on. In a statement made on the official blog, Rogers was quoted as saying, “I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!” No word on when the sequel will be released or what fans and gamers can expect, but assuming it took them this long to bring out the first game, we expect a release date in 2015 to be somewhat realistic.
