Samsung is yet to release a Tizen powered smartphone. Tizen is the company’s homegrown operating system, Samsung says that it views Tizen as a simple alternative to Android. The first device powered by this OS is expected to be released in October. Samsung is also expected to share more details about the OS at its developers’ conference, which takes place this October. Tizen 2.0 release might take place this year, but Tizen 3.0 is currently slated for 2014. Not much is known about the features of next year’s Tizen update, but as per the images obtained by Tizen Indonesia, this is how the update looks like on a Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung was initially supposed to release the first device powered by Tizen earlier this year. Recently it was reported that Samsung co-CEO had ordered the delay because the company wanted to further improve the OS. October is the timeframe in which Samsung is expected to finally launch the OS. It remains to be seen when the company starts shifting its devices to its own OS, a move like that might take considerable time, since moving abruptly off Android probably won’t be feasible for Samsung. Since Tizen hasn’t be released at all as yet, one can’t even speculate exactly when Tizen 3.0 will be rolled out next year.
