BlackBerry Could Be Sitting On 5-10 Million Unsold BlackBerry 10 Phones

BlackBerry-Q10-Review-11Having unsold product not only means that it is taking up space in the inventory, but it also means that it is money not made, and it turns out that BlackBerry could be sitting on anywhere between 5-10 million unsold BlackBerry 10 devices. Several analysts have been digging through the latest BlackBerry SEC filing and has found that BlackBerry could be sitting on more unsold devices than they might have let on. According to the numbers, BlackBerry managed to sell 600,000 BlackBerry 10 devices in Q1 2013, 1.7 million in Q2, and 1 million in Q3, which adds together to be around 3.3 million BlackBerry 10 devices sold to date.

Those aren’t bad numbers per se, but there have been reports suggesting that the company had been churning out about 1.5 to 2 million devices a month starting from February, meaning that the company could have produced anywhere between 10.5 million to 14 million, and after deducting what’s been sold, that’s a lot of BlackBerry devices left unsold! Assuming the numbers are accurate, BlackBerry needs to have a fire sale of sorts if they wish to unload as much inventory as possible. We’ve been companies such as HP and Microsoft write-off billions in the past and hope BlackBerry will not have to do something similar as well.
