When artists release albums, they tend to promote their upcoming album’s release with advertisements, radio interviews, and live shows. That’s the road most artists normally take, but Beyonce has taken the untraditional route and decided to not only announce her new album today, but to also release it at the same time.

Beyonce released the album titled “Beyonce” exclusively on iTunes earlier today and seems to take a page from Jay-Z’s playbook on how to release albums as he release “Magna Carta Holy Grail” earlier this year through a deal with Samsung. The deal with Samsung allowed Jay-Z to give away the album to a total of one million users of the company’s Galaxy phones just a few days prior to its official release.

Beyonce’s album features a total of 14 songs and 17 videos which the singer calls the release a “visual album” as she filmed some of the videos in locations around the world like Paris, New York and Rio de Janeiro.

As to why Beyonce released her latest album this way, she release a statement saying, ”I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it. I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
