iOS Outdoes Android During The Thanksgiving And Black Friday Shopping Period

foxconn-bigger-ipadDifferent people choose smartphone platforms for different reasons. Some choose it for its ease of use, some choose it for its looks, some choose it for the hardware that comes with it, and etc., and while those valid reasons, does it also mean that usage will differ from platform to platform? Well it seems that as far as online shopping is concerned, it would seem as though Apple’s iOS platform managed to beat out Android during the Thanksgiving and Black Friday periods.

This is according to IBM who claims that they have managed to track millions of transactions worth terabytes of data from about 800 US retail websites. According to their findings, “On average, iOS users spent $US127.92 per order on Black Friday compared to $US105.20 per order for Android users. iOS traffic reached 28.2 per cent of all online traffic, compared to 11.4 per cent for Android. iOS sales reached 18.1 per cent of all online sales, compared to 3.5 per cent for Android.”

This is admittedly impressive for iOS because last we heard, Android is clearly the dominating smartphone platform and has about 52% of the US smartphone market. However while clearly dominant, it seems that in terms of generating revenue for developers, iOS is clearly ahead as well. What do you guys think? Why does it seem that Apple users appear to prefer shopping online on their devices compared to Android?
