Survey Finds 1.2 Billion Apps Were Opened During Thanksgiving Weekend

flurryIs there any time in the year where one might see an increase in app usage? Well according to new data from Flurry Analytics, it seems that during Thanksgiving weekend this year, it has been found that there have been more than 1.2 billion app starts on iOS devices, such as on iPhones and iPads. In fact by comparison, last year’s Thanksgiving weekend saw only 800 million app starts, suggesting that smartphone usage is starting to become even more popular than ever, with more users using them compared to before.

So what’s with spike in app starts? Well it has been speculated that due to many people traveling across the country to go home for Thanksgiving weekend, a lot of apps are used to perhaps help kill some time during the commute, or perhaps to catch up with friends and family to let them know you are coming home, or maybe to launch cooking recipes, and etc. However for 2013, it has been found that more media and games apps were used compared to last year, while travel apps saw less usage compared to back in 2011 and 2012.

What do you guys make of this survey? Do you find yourself using more apps than you do normally during Thanksgiving weekend?
