Amazon Vaguely Confirms Fire TV Will Be Launched Globally

Earlier today Amazon finally unveiled its much rumored set-top box. Even the leaked game controller was officially launched today. The new set-top box goes on sale in the U.S. today. As is the case with all new Amazon hardware, its exclusive to the U.S. for now. During the official announcement Amazon didn’t exactly confirm when the Fire TV will go global.

However, an Amazon representative told Pocket-lint at the launch event in New York today that Fire TV will indeed be sold outside the U.S. Though when the representative was asked about the exact timing for global availability, the answer was a vague “like our other stuff, Fire TV will release globally.”

That doesn’t even bear a hint of a time frame, so one can only guess. If history tells us anything, Amazon will take its time before it launches the Fire TV anywhere else. For example, the Kindle Fire tablet made its way to the UK and other European countries in September 2012, while it was originally released in the U.S. in November 2011.

Customers in the U.S. are in luck. Amazon Fire TV has gone on sale today, it can be ordered through Amazon’s website. A remote is included for $99. The Fire game controller is sold separately for $39.
