In an interview with Re/code, Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony WorldWide Studios, has ‘confirmed’ in his own way (depending on how you read it of course) that the next generation PlayStation will be making the shift to be “service oriented”.
With PlayStation Now’s upcoming launch, Sony will offer the promise of a streaming service which will deliver video games to PlayStation-branded devices in addition to non-PlayStation devices. Should that become reality, I guess one can say that the PlayStation platform will eventually end up in a similar, Netflix-like situation for video games. Yoshida shared, “It’s really up to the game creators. If they still feel that we need more machine power — ‘We want to realize this and that and that, but we cannot do [it] with PS4′ — if that’s the case, there’s a good reason to have PS5, so that developers can create their vision. So, we’ll see.”
