Spanish airline Iberia have decided to work alongside Samsung to roll out an app for the Gear 2 smartwatch, which is touted to enable passengers to present their boarding pass at security checkpoints directly from their own wrist, “without needing anything else to do.” It does seem to be a nice thing to have, but this ain’t no killer app for sure. After all, those who are well versed with airline travel would know that it has been years since one has been able to make use of smartphones this way.
While such a move will not be able to move the heart of skeptics when it comes to the smartwatch revolution, it is nice to see such an avenue being explored for future advancements. Apart from that, this Iberia boarding pass app might deliver a preview of what Samsung could be looking into as it intends to up the ante where its ecosystem of software and services are concerned. Vueling, too, is another airline that features their boarding pass on a Sony Smartwatch.
