Ample evidence has surfaced over the past week to make it clear that despite popular belief an iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak is certainly possible. Three different iOS hackers have posted proof of achieving jailbreak on the latest software version. @i0n1c, a popular figure in the community, today posted a video demonstration of his cyberelevat0r iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak online.
The video clearly shows an iPhone 5c with Cydia installed. To prove that it is an untethered jailbreak, the device is turned off and then back on again. It starts up without requiring a tethered boot and Cydia is accessible immediately after the iPhone 5c boots up. This should certainly clear up any lingering misconceptions that might have about the possibility of an iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak.
As is the case with all recent jailbreaks it relies upon a kernel bug that’s hidden inside functionality accessible from within the iOS application sandbox. The vulnerability is different from nearly all used for iOS jailbreaks since iOS 4. The only downside is that since this is a software based vulnerability Apple can patch it with just a firmware update.
