Job Listing Hints At Cortana For Windows

windows-phone-81-cortana-14For those unfamiliar, Cortana is a voice assistant feature that Microsoft debuted with Windows Phone 8.1. However according to a recent job listing, it seems that Cortana could eventually find its way onto the Windows platform as well. In a way this hardly comes as a surprise since it would not be such a stretch of the imagination to think that Cortana could be used for the mobile and the PC, right?

According to the job listing, “The landscape of digital assistant is challenging, exciting, and ground-breaking space. Being part of the Cortana team you will have the opportunity to push the frontier, redefine the personalization experience on Windows.” Note that it says “Windows” as opposed to Windows Phone. Of course it remains unknown as to when Cortana could actually debut on Windows, but at least we know it’s a possibility.

Cortana, as it stands, is still part of the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview, meaning that it isn’t exactly available to everyone at the moment. We also expect Microsoft will want to refine it even further, add more language support and features before they release a Windows version as well.

From this point we don’t see why Microsoft couldn’t unify the voice assistant features across their platforms, which includes the Xbox. The Xbox did feature voice commands, although it was done through the use of the Kinect accessory, which at the moment is no longer bundled with the console, but what do you guys think? Would Cortana for Windows be a good idea?
