Samsung SM-G870A Gains FCC Approval

The Samsung SM-G870A has apparently picked up its nod of approval from the folks over at the FCC, and it does seem as though the Samsung SM-G870A is about to shape up to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, a smartphone that intends to continue from where the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active left off last year. I suppose the lack of the handset’s popularity has not stopped Samsung from rolling out a sequel, where we have also seen the Samsung SM-G870A appear in a User Agent Profile as well last month.

What makes this spotting of the Samsung SM-G870x over at the FCC might mean one thing – this particular smartphone which was approved could eventually end up in the form of the Galaxy S5 Active over at AT&T, Sprint, and other mobile carriers, with the SM-G870A being a variant for AT&T.

The FCC documents do point to the SM-G870A sporting a 143mm height, a width of 73.42mm, AT&T-friendly LTE (bands 2, 4 and 17), NFC and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity. The battery, however, looks set to retain last year’s 2,800 mAh model. With the new Samsung Galaxy S5 is already dust- and water-resistant (IP67 certified), it would be interesting to see just how will Samsung spruce up the Galaxy S5 Active in order to make it truly stand out from the crowd.
