One of the great mysteries of this year is why the Sony Xperia Z2 not coming to the U.S. Flagships that were introduced alongside this smartphone are already available in major markets. The Xperia Z2 isn’t officially available in the U.S. Previously it was rumored that the device might be exclusively offered by Verizon, a promotional image reflecting this possibility was also seen. Yet another similar image has been spotted, which begs the question, why hasn’t this smartphone been launched up till now?

Its a promotional image for the Sony Xperia Z2 which shows off the smartphone’s water resistant capabilities, particularly its IP58 certification. One can clearly make out the Verizon logo on the back of the Z2 in this image even though the company itself has confirmed that the Z2 won’t be making its way to any U.S. carrier.

T-Mobile has had Xperia flagship smartphones exclusively in the past so it came as a surprise to many when it was first rumored that this time around perhaps Verizon might be the only carrier in the U.S. offering the latest and greatest Sony smartphone.

Sony says that the Xperia Z2 will be released in the U.S. later this year though it will only be sold through its online store. Customers will then have to pay upfront for the device. Up till now the company hasn’t confirmed if any carriers, including Verizon, will be offering the device to its subscribers.
