Xiaomi Mi Pad Tablet Is Now Official

We had heard the rumors that Xiaomi was planning on launching a tablet of their own and that the launch would be back in April. Unfortunately that did not happen back then. Today though at an event in China Xiaomi’s new tablet was officially announced.

The device is called the Mi Pad which we can’t help but think sounds a lot like the iPad. In fact if you look at the image above, it looks like Xiaomi took the iPhone 5c, blew it up in size, and called it a tablet. That being said regardless of design, the Mi Pad packs quite a punch, based on its specs.

According to the specs, the Mi Pad will come with a 7.9-inch display. It will sport a resolution of 2048×1536 which will give it a pixel density of about 326 PPI. It will be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz. It will also be accompanied by 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 64GB storage options that can be expanded via microSD, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, and all of this crammed into an 8.5mm thin body.

Xiaomi did not mention if there would be a cellular version, so for now it looks like the tablet will be WiFi-only. No word on when the Xiaomi Mi Pad will be released, but a beta test of the tablet will begin in June. Xiaomi will also be pricing the tablet at around $240 for the 16GB model, and $270 for the 64GB model. Not too shabby, huh?
