Apple hasn’t refreshed its set-top box as yet but over the past few months the number of apps available for download has significantly gone up. Yet another app means another content source for users, and with competing set-top boxes offering even more functions, this is probably how the Apple TV keeps itself in the race. The official ABC News app has been released for the Apple TV, it brings instant access to live and on-demand video content, entertainment news, live hourly updates and more.

The app will also let users access video highlights from popular shows such as Good Morning America, Nightline, World News with Diane Sawyer and This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

Users will also be able to keep an eye on local news and video highlights from nine major market ABC stations across the country, apart from having the ability to sift through over 50 years of video footage from the ABC News’ archives. At launch stations include KABC in LA, WABC in New York, WPVI in Philadelphia, WLS in Chicago, KGO in San Francisco, KFSN in Fresno and many others.

Users can also choose to alternate between breaking news and live events throughout the day by taking advantage of the app’s ability to display four separate live video streams.

ABC News on the Apple TV joins the list of other news outlets that have launched apps for the set-top box. For users, its yet another content source, and one really can’t have enough of those.
