OnePlus One Shipments Delayed

Even after all the hype it generated for its first smartphone OnePlus hasn’t quite been able to get them to those who threw down their money. To add an element of exclusivity it implemented an “invite” system, only those who had an invite could purchase a OnePlus One and then wait for it to reach them. The company acknowledges that it send out invites before it had stock at warehouses which means that for some the shipments have been delayed.

In a post on its official forums the company says that due to “many small issues compounded” two large shipments bound for the U.S. and Europe were delayed. They hadn’t left any leeway for these days and yet sent out the invites. Now the company is 20 days behind its own release schedule and even acknowledges its failure at individually contacting those who have been affected by the delay.

For a nascent company this behaviour can be bad for business. This is OnePlus’s first smartphone and it needs to deliver in order to win customers’ trust. So far it hasn’t been doing a great job at this and certainly needs to step up its game.

OnePlus says that it has worked through these issues and now expects shipments to arrive at the U.S. and Europe warehouses this week. They expect to ship the next working day and a day later expect to provide customers with tracking numbers.

In a bid to make amends the company is now letting customers request a refund if they do not wish to wait any longer for the device, however those who have waited for so long can probably accept this delay as well.
