iPhone 6 Screen Supply Hits A Speed Bump

It looks like it is not going to be all plain sailing with the iPhone 6 from Apple, as word on the street has it that there is a far deeper issue concerning Cupertino’s supply chain that was supposed to meet the preset deadlines, at least a few weeks before the iPhone 6 actually hits the market. The solution is not all that simple such as retooling and polishing the production process, but rather, it requires to “solve” a component design issue

Apparently, this particular issue has been going on for quite some time already – a month thereabouts, and the backlight has nothing to do with it. Word has it that Apple wanted the iPhone 6 to be the thinnest to date, and decided to give one of the backlighting film layers a miss so that this can happen. However, the panel’s brightness were not up to scratch, which meant it is back to the drawing board, leaving suppliers hanging in mid air. This redesign move translates to lost time among suppliers to manufacture new panels, and it could mean missing out on the contracted quantity.

Hopefully all will be sorted out in due time, but at least we do know that Apple will not have any issue with Samsung’s supply of RAM for the handset.
