Destiny Boasts 9.5m Registered Players, Sequel In The Works

destiny_31In case you didn’t already know, Activision pumped a whopping $500 million into Bungie’s Destiny. That’s how confident they were that the game was going to succeed, and sure enough it did as early reports of Destiny’s revenue was around the $500 million mark on its first day. Speaking during Activision Blizzard’s earnings call, the company’s CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed some additional details about the game.

According to Hirshberg, Destiny is currently home to an impressive 9.5 million registered players. Of course we’re not sure how many of those 9.5 million registered users are actually actively playing the game, but it’s still an impressive figure nonetheless and it definitely overshadows Blizzard’s World of Warcraft which is currently sitting at around the 7.4 million mark.

It was also revealed that the developers of Destiny were already working on a sequel to the game. “Work has also begun on future expansion packs as well as on our next full game release. We’re very pleased with the launch and continuing engagement.” Of course we don’t think that gamers should expect to look forward to its sequel anytime soon, especially since the game is is not even half a year old, but if you’re really enjoying the franchise, it’s still good news nonetheless.

Activision Blizzard also revealed some stats about the game, such as how active players are spending about an average of 3 hours a day on the day.
