About two years back Google showed us its vision for wearable technology: Google Glass. This device immediately caught the attention of many, and while it was only handed out to a select few and that too for $1,500 a piece, there hasn’t been much activity as far as a commercial launch is concerned. People have now begun wondering about the future of this device and a new report points out that some of the first developers to start work on apps for Google Glass are no longer putting time and resources towards apps for this device.

Reuters contacted 16 developers who were early believes in Glass and started developing apps for it. Out of the 16 that were contacted, nine said that they had either given up on the projects altogether or had simply stopped working on them. Only three shifted to developing apps for Glass geared towards businesses. Developers gave up on the device because of lack of customers as well as its limitations.

The report also points out that some of the people who were pivotal in the development of Glass have left Google. This includes electrical engineering head Adrian Wong, lead developer Babak Parviz and director of developer relations Ossama Alami.

However, when contacted by the scribe, head of business operations for Glass Chris O’Neill said that the company is “energized as ever” about the opportunities that Glass represents, but mentioned nothing about the possibility of a consumer launch in the near future.
