The vibrant Android developer community often comes through from users stuck with devices that aren’t marked for an official update to a new iteration of the mobile platform. Those who happen to have a Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo can rejoice because the community has now come through for them. Samsung may not officially release the Lollipop update for this device but why worry when there’s a Galaxy S3 Neo Android 5.0 Lollipop port ready to fill the gap.

One caveat that exists with unofficial ports is that they tend to be buggy, at least at first, until the developers have ample time to iron things out and make the experience as close as possible to an official release.

This port comes from a senior developer over at XDA forums. Rox’s Lollipop ROM for Galaxy S3 Neo can be used as a daily driver as many of the essential features are up and running. NFC doesn’t work properly because the appropriate drivers aren’t there and in the dual-SIM variant audio in calls on the second SIM is also absent.

Flashing a custom ROM on an Android device can be a difficult procedure particularly if you have no prior knowledge of how this is done. Follow the instructions on the download page to easily get the Android 5.0 Lollipop port running on the Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo.

Samsung released the Galaxy S3 Neo back in April this year. Its simply a redesigned version of the Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed and 1.5GB of RAM onboard.
