Xiaomi is one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturers in the world. In a relatively short span of time this Chinese company has dominated the massive market in Asia and is now setting its sights on further expansion. It continues to roll out new smartphones and today the company announced the launch of Redmi 2, which not only have a 64-bit Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, but also supports LTE.

Under the hood Xiaomi Redmi 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 1.2GHz quadcore 64-bit processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of onboard storage with external expansion through microSD cards. The smartphone has a 4.7-inch 720p IPS LCD display, an 8 megapixel rear camera, dual-SIM support and a 2,200mAh battery.

It is pretty evident from the specifications that this is a mid-range device. Xiaomi has a habit of squeezing decent specifications in such packages and then offering them for very competitive prices which make them compelling options in the market as opposed to their rivals. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 will be sold for 699 Yuan which is just north of $110.

Initially the Xiaomi Redmi 2 will only be sold in China from January 9th. It will be available in five colors which include yellow, pink, white, black and green.

It wouldn’t surprise anyone if Xiaomi makes this smartphone available in neighboring countries down the line, but its unlikely that this particular smartphone might find its way to North America.
