Chevrolet Bolt Rolls On To The Production Line

At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month Chevrolet showed off a prototype all electric vehicle called the Bolt. The company said that it was shooting for a 200 mile range on a single charge with a price tag in the range of $30,000. The company didn’t say at that time when production will begun but it has now. Today Chevrolet confirmed production of its all electric Bolt vehicle which will be built at General Motors’ Orion Assembly plant near Detroit.

This new all electric car should shake up things pretty nicely as its going to be a direct competitor of Tesla’s Model 3 which is also positioned as a budget all electric car providing superior range.

Chevrolet is aiming to bring the Bolt to all 50 states with the previously estimated 200 mile range with a price target of around $30,000. Designed to support DC fast charging the car will feature selectable driving modes for preferred driving styles.

General Motors’ Orion Assembly plant, where the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano are built, will be provided with a $200 million investment to support the production of Chevrolet Bolt.

Today’s announcement doesn’t say when we can expect to see the Chevrolet Bolt on the roads but previous rumors have us believe that the car won’t be seen on the roads until at least 2016.
