Google launched Android Device Manager in 2013. It’s a tool that lets people locate and remotely wipe their Android device should the need arise. The company says that the tool has helped reunite nearly 30 million users “with their wayward phones and tablets.” Today it announced that the Android Device Manager has been updated to allow locating a lost Android smartphone through an Android Wear smartwatch.
For those who are unaware, Android Wear is a relatively new platform that Google has created just for wearable devices, many companies like Motorola, LG, Samsung and Huawei have already created their Android Wear smartwatches.
Smartwatches, ones that don’t have standalone 3G, need to be hooked up to an Android smartphone any way so that they can access data. However if do manage to lose your smartphone Android Device Manager now supports Google’s wearable platform.
Android Wear will let you keep track of your device that’s linked up to the smartwatch. In order to use the feature you just have to say ‘Ok, Google. Start. Find my phone.’ Alternatively you can also select the ‘Find my phone’ option in the Start menu.
Giving this command through the smartwatch will make your Android smartphone ring at full volume. You won’t have to do anything to enable this feature. It will be available on all Android Wear smartwatches over the next couple of weeks.
