The Breitling B55 Connected Is The Company’s First Smartwatch Attempt

Are smartwatches the way of the future? Perhaps and there are some Swiss watchmakers who thinks that the watch industry needs to sit up and pay attention. Turns out that unlike the situation with Quartz watches, the Swiss watch industry is indeed paying attention as Breitling has recently announced their first attempt at a smartwatch in the Breitling B55 Connected.

That being said the B55 Connected isn’t a smartwatch along the lines of what other companies have unveiled. Rather it is a Swiss timepiece that comes with several hi-tech and connected features designed for the modern watch wearer. For example it will be able to pair with the Breitling smartphone app that lets you adjust the watch’s time to a new time zone, set alarms, and will also be able to backup the data in case you want to share it with other users.

Unfortunately features we have come to expect from smartwatches such as health monitoring, text notifications, social media updates, and more will not be part of the watch’s features which may or may not be a good thing. As for the actual watch itself, it will use the B50 caliber superquartz movement instead of being purely mechanical, as well as the ability to time flights which are some features that Breitling is known for.

Pricing and availability of the Breitling B55 Connected was not announced as these details are expected to be shared at the Baselworld show in Switzerland, but given Breitling’s reputation and the prices of its other timepieces, we do not expect the B55 Connected to come cheap.
